Throughout history, several divine powers have taken birth on earth to protect religion and destroy evil. From ancient scriptures to historical records, we find numerous such examples. Yet, there are also great souls in human form who, in their quest to safeguard righteousness, ascended to divinity themselves. One such extraordinary woman of the 17th century is Queen Ahilyadevi Holkar. Her glorious saga will be portrayed in the upcoming film ‘Dharmarakshak Ahilyadevi Holkar – Ek Yug’. The gripping trailer of this film has just been released, and it is all set to release across Maharashtra on May 23.
Produced by Somanath Shinde under the Laybhari Productions banner, the film is presented by Nitin Dhavane Films. Nitin Dhawne Patil is the co-producer and presenter of the movie. The story and direction are by Sushant Sonavale, who takes the audience on a journey back to the 17th century to witness the incredible tale of a brave female warrior. The trailer opens with a powerful depiction of the era—highlighting the essence of freedom, warfare, and valiant battles. Amidst a raging war, a Maratha soldier fights valiantly, followed by the dramatic entry of young Ahilyadevi, as someone says, “A shepherd’s daughter will one day raise the Maratha flag beyond the seven seas.”
Just like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj took his oath at Raigad, Ahilyadevi too is seen taking a vow and charging into battle. She is known for defeating enemies and restoring thousands of temples, including the twelve Jyotirlingas and the Char Dhams. The trailer hints at her unwavering commitment to dharma and the fierce edge of the Maratha sword. With intense and meaningful dialogues like “Hinduism is not just a religion, it is the legacy of our Sant Tukaram who taught the world,” the film promises a spine-chilling cinematic experience.
Through this movie, the legendary story of the philosophical queen of Malwa—Ahilyadevi Holkar, who ruled from 1767 to 1795—will be presented to the world. As suggested by the title, a golden era hidden in the pages of history will come alive on the silver screen on May 23.
Renowned actress Ashwini Mahangade, known for her versatile roles in films and TV shows, plays the role of Ahilyadevi. She is joined by notable Marathi actors including Rahul Raje, Suhas Jadhav, Sandesh Kadam, Suresh Vishwakarma, Anil Nagarkar, Sanjay Khapre, Sunil Godse, Sanjeevani Jadhav, and Shiva Rindani. The songs, penned by lyricists Guru Thakur and Priyanka Shendge, are composed by Shubham Patankar and sung in the powerful voices of Nandesh Umap and Sagar Bhosale. A Powada (a traditional Marathi ballad) sung by Nandesh is set to give goosebumps to the audience. The film’s DI has been done by Vinod Raje, editing by Om Patil, and VFX by Salman Mulani and Sunit Vyas. The executive producers are Dada Shinde and Dhanaji Shinde.
